The rare lineages of white lions
1
0
In captivity at the Pretoria National Zoo, Temba mothered several cubs and died in 1986. Tombi had a white cub in 1981 which did not survive. Descendants of Temba live in captivity in zoos and reserves around the world. Some other white or blond lions were born in Timbavati after Temba and Tombi. A female lived for several years before being killed in territory fight in 1993. There is another line of white lions potentially derived from Timbavati lions, founded by a white male captured in the Timbavati area in the late 1980s and raised in a private reserve.
