The Museum of Fine Arts and Lace in Alençon exhibits more than 1,200 pieces from the 16th century to the present day. There are all kinds of different techniques such as the Point de Venise, the Point d'Argentan, the Point de France, and the Point d'Alençon. The latter was invented by Marthe La Perrière (1605-1677), who innovated and improved the Point de Venise widely used until then. Her technique made the reputation of Alençon lace, crowned Queen of Laces at the Universal Exhibition in London in 1851.
