Located 1.7 miles (2.75 km) from the Fort de La Hougue, the Fort de Tatihou extends on a natural area of 69 acres (28 ha). It has been the property of the Conservatoire du Littoral (Coastal Protection Agency) since 1988. Completed in 1699, the Vauban tower is surmounted by a semi-spherical dome and has an adjoining turret with a spiral staircase serving the three floors. Barracks, stores, a vast powder keg, and a chapel from 1714 dedicated to Saint Clement, patron saint of sailors, complete the ensemble.
