The press-molded technique
0
0
In the press-molded technique, molten glass is poured into a cast iron or steel mold, then heavily pressed. Inspired by an ancient process known 1500 years BC, this technique was applied in the USA around 1825 and now is at Lalique. A team of two glassmakers is necessary, one depositing the incandescent ball in the heated mold, the other lowering a piston to press the glass. The press-molded technique allows producing decorative pieces at a low cost, especially for tableware and table ornaments.
