The power of Swedish artillery
0
0
The grand bastion of the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle brings together a collection of artillery guns. Among them, the large siege cannon is a replica of the Swedish armament during the assault of 1633. Fortification works were undertaken on the bastion to provide a logistical response on the most vulnerable side of the fortress. Despite these precautions, the power of the Swedish artillery broke its defenses during the Thirty Years' War. After fifty-two days of siege, the Haut-Koenigsbourg was looted and set on fire. The ruins remained abandoned for more than two centuries.
