Labeled 'Plus Beaux Villages de France' (Most Beautiful Villages in France) since 1996, Châteauneuf-en-Auxois offers the visitors several points of interest : a 12th century castle fortress intended to command the old road from Dijon to Autun, a 15th century church dedicated to St-Philippe and St-Jacques, old houses like the Blondeau house and the many other residences that belonged to Burgundian merchants from the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries, but also a washhouse, fountains and several four-hundred-year-old lime trees.
