Once you reach the terraces above the abbey church, you can’t miss them. The pinnacles raise their granite pyramids to the sky. They are decorated with floral or geometric motifs. Some are hollow like little chapels, others have no openings. Their hard granite withstands winds and sea spray. Primarily decorative, the pinnacles also serve as supports for balustrades. In addition, they hold the gargoyles and upper cornices in place.
