The painted patterns of the Pech-Merle cave

The Pech-Merle cave near Cabrerets, in the Lot department, contains more than 700 engraved or painted patterns. Among these motifs, 69 animal figures, 13 human figures, and some 595 signs. Apart from the “Punctuated horses” panel, there are also representations of mammoths, aurochs, horses, ibex, fish, etc. The “Punctuated horses” is a block 11.81 feet (3.6 m) long and 5.41 feet (1.65 m) high. The equids are represented there with a large fish finely outlined in red.
