The outlets of traditional woodturning
0
0
Traditional woodturning - like here that of Robert Marichy in Arinthod (Jura) - works mainly for furniture, and in particular classic style turned wood furniture (Louis XVI, Louis Philippe, Empire), whose impact is declining sharply today. The production of wooden toys represents its other main outlet with around 20% of turnover at the beginning of the 2000s. The number of woodturning companies would be around one hundred and thirty for the ‘Observatoire de la tournerie-tabletterie’ and less than fifty according to UNAMA (l’Union Nationale de l’Artisanat des Métiers de l’Ameublement) ; only seventy-five art turners would solely live from turning.
