The second basin of the Fontaine de la Rotonde of Aix-en-Provence is surrounded by four groups of two lions of 4 tons lying on Tholonet marble plinths. They support metal pallets from which the water escapes. Above the basin, four other groups of children and swans rise between the lions. All these statues are the work of François Truphème. Made of bronzed cast iron, they were cast in the factories of MM. Muel Wall and Cie in Paris. The 18-ton basin, also made of cast iron, consists of twelve sectors connected by bolts. Its hexagonal pedestal is adorned with dolphins rejecting water in long jets.
