The orientation table of the Sancy summit
The short but steep ascent of 864 steps, here barely visible under the snow, allows hikers to reach the summit of Sancy from the cable car station. An orientation table (on the left of this photo) breaks down the 360 degree-panorama of the entire Mont-Dore massif: From the landscape carved out by the great depression of the Dordogne, encompassing the Banne d’Ordanche and its large glacis flows to the West, to Puy Gros further to the East. The peaks of Roches Sanadoire and Tuilière as well as the dome of L’Ouire protrude on the horizon while the majestic glacial cirque of Chaudefour extends to the Northeast.
