The only black sand beach in southern Martinique

The beach of Anse Noire - Lans Nwè in Creole - is located in the southwest of Martinique between Les Anses-d'Arlet and Trois-Ilets. Its small size and its pedestrian-only access at the end of a descent of 136 steps on the side of the rock preserve it relatively from the tourist influx. This ribbon of volcanic sand bordered by tall coconut palms and gum trees is nevertheless a geological curiosity as the only black sand beach in southern Martinique. Overlooked by the steep slopes of the neighboring mornes (hills), wedged between two cliffs, and drowned in vegetation, it offers a taste of the beaches in the north of the island - such as Anse Céron or Anse Couleuvre - created by the various eruptions of Mount Pelée and located near the volcano.
