The oldest road in France

The Alsace wine route is the oldest road in France. It was inaugurated on May 30, 1953 during a car rally. Two convoys each took the road at both ends of the Alsatian vineyard: Marlenheim for the northern end and Thann for the southern end. Between the Rhine and the mountains, the wine route is a thin, elongated strip that stretches over 170 kilometers and crosses 120 typical Alsatian towns and villages.
