Thanks to its remarkable climatic and geographical conditions, Provence has established itself as the oldest French vineyard. The vines were introduced there as early as the 6th century BC by the Phocaeans and developed four centuries later by the Romans. They acquired considerable importance in the Middle Ages when the monastic orders and the regional noble families took over many estates. The summer dry heat tempered by the sea breezes, the winter mildness due to the proximity of the Mediterranean sea, and the frequent winds contribute to the health of the vines of Provence.
