The oldest electric funicular in France
0
0
Known for having housed one of the first cable cars in France, the mountain resort of Mont-Dore still has the oldest electric funicular in the country. It was installed in 1898 for the spa visitors. While it does not allow the skiers to reach the top of the resort, at 6,184 ft (1,885 m), it connects Mont-Dore to the Salon du Capucin, a wooded clearing perched at 4,084 ft (1,245 m). In doing so, the funicular covers an elevation gain of 820 ft (250 m) in ten minutes, at a speed of 3.3 ft per second (1 m).
