Located in Pin-au-Haras in the Orne department, the Haras National du Pin is the oldest and largest of the French stud farms. The site already housed a horse farm in the Middle Ages. The shortage of horses for the army of Louis XIV led to the construction of a larger breeding facility in 1715. Long the residence of the directors, the domain's castle was erected in the center. It consists of three main buildings in gray limestone and a slate roof. The surrounding stables were built with red brick.
