The old Briquet mill of Carros in the Alpes-Maritimes department owes its name to its builder Pierre Briquet. Completed in 1856, this windmill - whose wings have now disappeared - is an exception in a region rich in water mills. Located on a windy belvedere which dominates the Var valley, it saved the population from having to carry their grain to the commune of Le Broc, 2.4 miles (4 km) away. Its period of operation was short since, from the end of the 19th century, it was used as a warehouse.
