The ochres of Vaucluse
1
0
The formation of the Vaucluse ochres combines the three great living kingdoms : clay comes from the mineral kingdom, color from the animal kingdom, its transformation and its fixation from the plant kingdom. The action of these various elements was coupled with the profound geological upheavals undergone by the region over millions of years which resulted in the differentiation of the initial sandbank into differently exploited deposits (ocher in the area of Apt between Roussillon and Rustrel, glass sand near Entraigues-sur-Sorgue, bauxite towards the Var).
