The narrowest street in the world

Visitors have to venture into the medieval hilltop village of Gassin, massed around its church, to discover the narrowest street in the world. Dubbed L'Androuno and only 11.4 in (29 cm) wide at its minimum, this passage has been recognized as the narrowest street in the world by National Geographic. Its name derived from the Latin andron and the Greek 'ἀνδρών' (men) designated in Antiquity a part of the dwellings reserved for men or a passage between two houses or two parts of the same home. The term, which appeared in glossaries and dictionaries in the 18th century, could be defined as a narrow and uninviting alleyway, therefore reserved for men.
