The Louvre is the most visited museum in the world (10.2 million visitors in 2018), but it is also the largest. It would take about 97 hours to visit the entire museum, spending only 10 seconds in front of each work. The museum has 403 rooms, 72,000 m2 of exhibition space, 14.5 km of corridors and 10,000 steps! It also houses the second largest collection of paintings in the world (12,000 works) after the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg (16,000 paintings) and ahead of the Prado Museum in Madrid (9,000 works). The Louvre has nearly 680,000 works of art, of which only 35,000 are on display.
