The municipality of the Bout du Bout

The commune of Grand'Rivière extends in the eponymous valley at the foot of Mount Pelée, at the northeastern end of Martinique. It is also the furthest commune from the island's capital. The road to get there goes deep into the tropical forest, crosses ravines, and skirts cliffs, and it takes at least 1h30 to cover the 44 miles (72 km) that separate this municipality of the Bout du Bout (the very very end) from Fort-de-France. It is also in the heart of the village, founded by the Jesuits at the end of the 17th century on the left bank of the Grande-Rivière, that the North-Atlantic road ends. Today, this fishing village of only 531 inhabitants is the least populated commune of Martinique. Since 2018, Grand'Rivière has hosted on its territory the largest wind farm in the Lesser Antilles, consisting of seven wind turbines supplying 1,500 homes.
