The multiple bridges of Avignon

Such an aerial shot of Avignon gives pride of place to the southern tip of the central island, which divides the Rhône into two arms. It is formed by the island of Piot, in the extension of the larger island of Barthelasse. It also allows distinguishing the succession of bridges that cross the Rhône downstream from the most famous of all, the 12th-century medieval Saint-Bénézet bridge in the foreground. Then come the Pont Daladier and the Pont de L'Europe which connect Avignon in the Vaucluse to Villeneuve-lez-Avignon in the Gard department as well as an SNCF bridge and a double TGV viaduct which allow the passage of the railway lines.
