With 23% of forests, mainly located in the valleys, Eure is the most wooded department in Normandy. The Lyons public forest alone has 14,505 acres (5,870 ha) of beech woods. Hardwoods dominate the department, with a higher proportion of oaks over beeches. Nearly seven out of ten inhabitants walk the 328,094 acres (132,775 ha) of public and private forests on weekends.
