The Vaucluse ochre deposit stretches from Mormoiron to Apt, making it the most important in France and perhaps even in the world. It colors the landscapes of the Luberon massif and recalls the past ochre activity of the region, which had up to seventeen underground quarries and thirty-two open-air quarries. The production reached its peak in 1928, with 40,000 tons of ochre shipped 90% worldwide.
