Since the Middle Ages, the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle has had a strategic position between France, Germany, and Switzerland. Kaiser Wilhelm II wanted to make it a medieval imperial showcase and rebuilt its dungeon, partially destroyed. A roof was added to it, and the eagle still sits at its top. The addition of the mill raised controversies, even though one probably existed in the Middle Ages. It has asymmetrical wings with a streamlined leading edge, and its octagonal roof is adjustable by a tail.
