The historic center of Dieppe includes the Grande Rue, pedestrianized and commercial nerve center. Renovated in 2004, it leads to the Place du Puits-Salé that houses buildings listed as Historical Monuments like the Hôtel de l'Amirauté, dating from the end of the 17th century and residence of the Admiralty until the French Revolution, also the judicial seat for naval affairs. During the Revolution, the Grande Rue was renamed Rue de la République. Until 1964, it housed the mirror factory of the Clouet family, installed since 1849, which supplied Renoir and Monet with brushes and colors.
