The Lusail Katara Towers

0
The crescent-shaped design of the Lusail Katara Towers is inspired by the two curved swords, or scimitars, on the Qatar emblem. This ultra-modern building is a reference to the country’s cultural and historical heritage. The scimitars are curved-blade heavy sabres – called ‘shamshir’ in Qatar – used since the 12th century in the Middle East. They were imported into the region by the Turko-Mongol horsemen who had been using them since the third century. These weapons were better suited to equestrian combat than straight-bladed swords and have become the emblematic weapon of the Middle East in people’s minds. The Qataris pass on their swords from generation to generation. Used by their ancestors to defend their lands and honour, these weapons are the pride of families. Reflecting the wisdom of its owner, the Qatari scimitar is a symbol of courage and strength praised in many songs and poems.
