The Lofoten Islands

The characteristic red fishermen’s huts, locally known as “Rorbuer” dot most of the Lofoten Islands. They used to house tens of thousands of fishermen who would flock to the Lofoten Islands to fish for cod. Stock fish is still on the daily menu of most of the inhabitants and one of the main exports of Norway... today the fishing happens from larger boats but the stock fish is still hung to dry during spring and early summer. The huts are no longer inhabited by seasonal fisherman’s but tourists love to stay at them!
