The toril constitutes a set of compartments adjoining the arenas with cells in which the bulls wait for their race to start. If the bull refuses to return to the toril after 15 minutes of racing, the simbeu arrives. The role of this driving bull with a bell around its neck is to bring back the other animals to their cells. If they usually follow the simbeu, a guardian is sometimes needed to lend a hand.
