In the Norman countryside and along the coasts, flax constitutes a local tradition. Considered Normandy's green gold, flax is part of its identity and heritage. Linen is the oldest known textile, and its discovery dates back to 36,000 BC in a cave in the Caucasus. Today, Normandy is the leading region in the world for the production of flax. Its temperate and humid oceanic climate, low thermal amplitude, and rich and deep soil are particularly conducive to its cultivation.
