The ‘Besse discovery’ walk is a one-hour circuit marked out by fourteen explanatory panels starting from Saint-André church. It allows visitor to stroll through the historic heart of the city and admire the many lava stone houses of Quartier Saint-Jean, place du Dr Pipet or rue de la Boucherie (butcher's shop). The most famous of them, the house of Queen Margot, allegedly hosted for one night Marguerite de Valois – daughter of Catherine de Medicis, known as Queen Margot – exiled from the court of France by her brother King Henry III to her castle in Usson, Auvergne.
