The two-headed dark eagle of the coat of arms of Castellar appears on the new paving of the Cour des Miracles around which the original Lascaris palace was already organized. The bird echoes the identical eagle that surmounts the porched tower and the semicircular arched door of the palace. An imperial symbol, this eagle looking both east and west is reminiscent of one of the most prestigious ancestors of the lineage, Emperor Theodore II Lascaris, who ruled the Byzantine Empire in the 13th century.
