The Bernard Lyot Telescope (TBL) installed at the top of the Pic du Midi de Bigorre in the Hautes-Pyrénées department produces astronomical data for a whole community of professional astronomers. Thanks to its spectropolarimeter instrument (the (neo) Narval), the TBL is among the only telescopes in the world to allow observation of the magnetic fields surrounding the stars. With its diameter of 6.56 ft (2 m), it is the largest optical telescope in mainland France.
