It was already in Europe during the great glaciations, and its silhouette adorns the walls of the Lascaux cave. The Siberian lynx (Lynx lynx wrangeli) is the largest form of the Eurasian subspecies. It is present from the east of the Yenisei basin to the Bering Sea. It hunts by hiding to observe its prey and then leaps like a spring. The Siberian lynx catches a deer in 75% of cases when the prey is 65 ft (20 m) away, but it is not a long-distance runner. A single catch provides its food for eight days, and the feline leaves the head, legs, skin, and viscera.
