Pointe des Salines, in the foreground, is located in the municipalities of Le Gosier and Saint-Louis at the southern tip of Martinique. It constitutes the eastern limit of the Grande Anse des Salines beach - terminated on the west by Pointe Pie - which it separates from the Grande Terre des Salines. This protected area of 2,407 acres (974.5 ha) adjoins the Saline du Gosier fed by both runoff water and the sea and considered the largest lagoon on the southern coast of Martinique.
