Banon is a rural village in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department that attracts visitors not only by its geographical environment and the reputation of its AOC (Controlled Designation of Origin) goat cheese but also by an original cultural particularity. This village of a little more than 1,000 inhabitants is home to the Bleuet bookstore, the largest independent bookstore in rural France. Founded in 1990 by Joël Gattefossé, the place with blue shutters overlooks Place Saint-Just, in the heart of the village.
