The Sanctuaire de Notre-Dame de Lourdes (Our Lady of Lourdes Sanctuary) is the largest Catholic pilgrimage center in France. The site steeped in spirituality has attracted visitors and pilgrims from all over the world since the many apparitions of the Virgin Mary to the young Bernadette Soubirous in 1858. The sanctuary includes several places like the cave of Massabielle where the apparitions took place, the basilica of the Immaculée Conception, the Rosaire basilica, fountains, swimming pools, a reception for the sick and many other structures linked to the spiritual history of the city.
