Madine Lake covers 2,718 acres (1,100 ha) and has a capacity of 35 million cubic meters. This artificial reservoir constitutes the largest body of water in Lorraine and the second in volume, behind Pierre-Percée's lake. An annual volume of 10 million cubic meters is dedicated to the city of Metz. The lake and its satellite ponds extend in a landscape dominated by crops. However, a few forest areas subsist and adjoin almost 2/3 of the banks. The western part of Madine Lake is bordered by wet meadows and reed beds.
