The Hyères islands represent a global emerged area of almost 7,413 acres (3,000 ha) and form the largest archipelago in southeastern France. The two other main archipelagos of the Lérins islands, which cover 618 acres (250 ha), and the islands of Marseille with the archipelagos of Frioul and Riou extending over 946 acres (383 ha), bring together the other significant islands of the Provencal coast and the French Riviera. While the total area of all these lands is almost 9,884 acres (4,000 ha), 54% of the islands are less than 2.5 acres (1 ha), and only four exceed 247 acres (100 ha). Port-Cros is the third-largest island in the region behind two other Hyères islands, Porquerolles and Le Levant.
