The Islamic Cultural Centre of Doha

0
This architecturally daring building has towered over the city of Doha, the capital of Qatar, since January 2008. It is home to the Sheikh Abdulla bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre and the Al Fanar Mosque, also known as the “Spiral Mosque”, with the tallest minaret in the country. The use of modern materials such as bricks and cement in its construction has made it possible to build high domes that contrast with traditional flat roofs. The Islamic Cultural Centre (or Fanar Centre) offers religious, educational and social activities. It also publishes religious studies and provides courses in Arabic and Islam. It is named after the founder of the Qatari judicial system, Sheikh Abdulla bin Zaid Al Mahmoud. Located in the Corniche district near the Souq Waqif, the Fanar Centre is enhanced at night by generous lighting, making it visible from a distance.
