The impetus of Sophia Antipolis

0
The third most populous city in the Alpes-Maritimes department, after Nice and Cannes, respectively located 14.2 and 6.2 miles (23 and 10 km) further east, Antibes has a fixed population of 72,915 inhabitants, which can exceed 200,000 residents in summer with the tourist influx. Over the last decades, the city has experienced a new dynamic of development thanks to the establishment of Sophia Antipolis, the first French and European technology hub founded in 1969. A major provider of jobs for the inhabitants of Antibes, it has coincided with a consequent increase in its population which was only 47,547 people in 1968.
