Raised by the Inuit tribe of the Chukchi who came from the Lake Baikal region but had crossed the Bering Strait, the husky moved from Siberia to the United States with the sale of Alaska to the Americans in 1867. The first team of huskies was imported there in 1908 by William Goosak, a fur merchant. The name ‘husky’ - which originally meant ‘hoarse’ - comes from the hoarse wolf-like howl of this dog.
