The Vieux-Port (Old Port) has been the historical and geographical heart of the city of Marseille since its founding during Antiquity. Located at the bottom of the Canebière, it is bordered north by the Quai du Port and the town hall, east by the Quai des Belges, and south by the Quai de Rive Neuve. Once the economic center of Marseille largely open to commercial activities in the Mediterranean and with the French colonies, it serves as a marina nowadays. More discreet than Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde, the Saint-Ferréol church (in the background on the edge of the Quai des Belges) was built in the 16th century.
