Located inland, without opening to the sea, the Vaucluse department is considered the heart of the Provence of yesteryear by its climate with exceptional sunshine and its unspoiled natural spaces as well as the richness of its heritage and traditions. Against a backdrop of plains cultivated with orchards, vineyards, and lavender and lush green landforms, it is peppered by hilltop villages. Vaucluse is also home to major touristy and cultural sites like the Mont Ventoux, the Provençal Colorado (photo), the Roman theater of Orange, or the Palais des Papes of Avignon.
