The three lakes of the forêt d'Orient cover 58,255 acres (23,575 ha) in the Aube department across 21 municipalities. They are part of the Orient Forest Regional Nature Park. The lac d'Orient is a refuge for 250 species of birds. Common cranes, egrets, or swans flock there to feed, nest, or rest, on the route of their migration. Various mammals such as deers, foxes, or wild boars also dwell around the lakes. Located just 7,4 mi (12 km) from Troyes, the natural park is the region's green lung.
