The Musée de l’Air et de l’Espace (Air and Space Museum) at Le Bourget brings to life the great air battles of the 1914-1918 war. Richly endowed, the HaIl Grande Guerre displays a dozen French, German and Belgian aircraft. One can see the wing of a Spad VII, the type of plane flown by Georges Guynemer, and a Breguet 14, the civilian version of which was used by the ‘aéropostale’ after the war. In 1914, aviation was in its infancy. A year later, at the start of the Battle of Verdun, it became a fully-fledged weapon that changed the way combat was conducted.
