The great rose window of Metz cathedral
0
0
On the western facade of Metz Cathedral, above the large portal, the wide western glass roof (622 sq yards / 350 m² ) contains a large rose window of 36 ft (11 m) in diameter. It was crafted in 1384 by Hermann of Münster. It has eight rounded petals, each divided into two parts. The glass is clear, but the colors are more intense in the outside and the center of the rose window. In each petal is inscribed a different biblical character. In recognition of his substantial work, Hermann of Münster received the honor of being buried in the cathedral.
