The grassy flows of Lake Mézan

The Malrif lakes extend in the schistose Queyras in the east of the massif on the border with Italy. These lustrous shales making the soil waterproof and clogging it with water cause landslides and mud or grass slides clearly visible above Lake Mézan (photo). Both solifluction flows due to the impermeability of the subsoil and frost flows linked to thawing on the surface of the still frozen ground are visible there.
