The Gothic cloister of the Unterlinden museum

0
The Dominican convent of Unterlinden was founded by two noble widows in the second half of the 13th century. It is installed on the place called Sub Tilia or Unter den Linden (under the Tilleuls) and is placed under the direction of the Dominicans of Colmar. It is an almost perfect square with its four Gothic galleries: fourteen arcades to the north and east, 13 arcades to the south and west. The cloister played a functional role, ensuring communication between the different buildings and the church, but also spiritual and liturgical, as a place of meditation, prayer and procession.
