The 1,734 acres (702 ha) territory of the municipality of Gorbio is crossed from northwest to southeast by the Gorbio river. This 5.2 mi (8.5 km) long torrent takes its source at an altitude of 3,543 ft (1,080 m) in the village of Peille south of the Cime de Baudon (4,153 ft / 266 m) and north of the Col de la Madone de Gorbio. It flows into the Mediterranean Sea between Roquebrune-Cap-Martin and Menton. Crossed by the motorway and covered for the last 2,000 ft (600 m) of its course, the river forms the Ray ravine in the village of Gorbio, with spectacular gray limestone narrowings.
